2013 Texas A&M 3 Minute Thesis Competition

Texas A&M held its  inaugural 3MT competition in Fall 2013. To determine who competes in the 3MT, a preliminary competition took place in early November. Twenty-four students participated in the preliminary round and presented before a panel of four judges (three faculty members and one graduate student). Students were given feedback on their presentation from the judges.

Six students were chosen as finalists to compete in the final 3 Minute Thesis Competition on November 21, 2013. Meet the 2013 Texas A&M 3MT finalists!

Over 100 faculty, staff and students watched the inaugural competition. View photos from the 2013 Texas A&M 3MT Final Competition. The panel of six judges included a lineup of five prestigious faculty members, and the president of the Graduate Student Council served as the sixth judge.  At the final competition three awards were given: Winner, Runner-Up and People’s Choice (selected by the audience).  Mr. Kelly Lemmons, PhD student in the Department of Geography, was selected as the 2013 3MT Winner. Read more about the 2013 Texas A&M 3MT Winners.

Kelly Lemmons advanced to the regional competition in San Antonio, Texas, at the Conference of Southern Graduate Schools in February 2014.15 students competed in the regional competition from schools all over the southern US, including SEC rivals University of Alabama and University of Georgia. Of the 15 students competing two were chosen as Winner and Runner-up and two People’s Choice Awards were given. Kelly had an excellent 3 minute speech but did not win one of the four awards.
