Yogesh Babbar

Yogesh Babbar

Department: Aerospace Engineering
Degree Level: PhD
Advisor: Dr. Thomas W. Strganac
3MT Title: Aeroelastic Response and Control Under Gust
Research Description: This research aims to understand aeroelastic behavior of slender wings and blades under gust. Some examples include an airplane wing in turbulence and a wind turbine blade. Experiments are being conducted to develop control laws to eliminate such oscillations. This will result in better flight experience, longer airplane life and more efficient power production in the case of wind turbines.

Matthew Berg

2013 3 Minute Thesis Runner-Up

        Matthew Berg

Department: Ecosystem Science and Management
Degree Level: PhD
Advisor: Dr. Brad Wilcox
3MT Title: Long-term chances Of Dynamic  Rangelands and Impacts On Water Resources
Research Description: Using airborne and satellite photography combined with lake sediment analysis, I investigate how rangelands have changed since the beginning of the 20th century and what that means for water supplies in the future.

Department: Geography
Degree Level: PhD
Advisor: Dr. Jonathan Smith
3MT Title: Short-Term Study Abroad
Research Description: This research measures the degree to which students interact with the host culture on a short-term study abroad and offers suggestions to make the experience more impactful.

Shriram Srinivasan

        Shriram Srinivasan

Department: Mechanical Engineering
Degree Level: PhD
Advisor: K.R. Rajagopal
3MT Title: Modeling flow through porous media under large pressure gradients
Research Description: My research focuses on describing the motion of fluids through a porous medium. This applies to problems of petroleum engineering and in carbon sequestration-a process to store carbon dioxide underground in depleted oil wells.
