Request for a Graduate Assistant to Work Additional Hours

This form is used to document approval of arrangements for students in a Graduate Assistant title to work above 50% effort (20 hours per week).

The maximum allowed hours depend on the term (fall, spring, summer, when classes are not in session) and on the graduate assistant's student status as domestic or international.

  • F-1 or J-1 graduate assistants can work a maximum of 50% effort (20 hours per week) during fall and spring terms while classes are in session.
  • F-1 or J-1 graduate assistants can request to work up to 100% effort (40 hours per week) during winter and spring break periods when classes are not in session and during the summer.
This request is generally initiated by the graduate assistant and will route to the employing unit(s) and academic department before processing in Workday. Approval and processing in Workday should be received in advance of starting the additional work.
